Gustav Mahler Orchestra

Introduction

An Orchestral Academy is something yet to exist here in Hong Kong, and its creation would further enrich the opulent culture and life in our city, as well as cultivate aspiring musicians.

What’s happening now:
– For fresh music graduates, being part of a full-time orchestra is highly desirable, perhaps even a dream come true
– Teaching is a more lucrative and stable source of income for musicians than performing is

To truly make an impact on the classical music scene in Hong Kong, we search for ways to change how orchestras are traditionally run, by questioning the necessity of having full-time musicians in an orchestra who are also part-time educators. Our musicians are full-time instrumental educators who spend regular hours to rehearse weekly and perform with our orchestra. We aim to hold a small number of concerts that are nevertheless of international quality.
