Karin Weber Gallery is excited to announce \u2018Notes On the Future,\u2019 a solo exhibition by artist Eric Fok. The greatest surprise in experiencing Eric Fok\u2019s paintings lies in the way various historical eras amalgamate into a single work. In Fok\u2019s second solo exhibition with the gallery, the artist attempts to envisage the future of Hong Kong and Macau, whilst retaining his strong engagement with previous favourite themes such as the Age of Exploration, colonization and globalization.<\/p>\n
Two of Fok\u2019s new works, 2047.33 and 2047.34, draw references from popular Hong Kong movies, 2046, by film maker Wong Kar Wai (2004) and From Beijing With Love by Stephen Chow (1994). Neon signs and a monorail train capture the artist\u2019s vision of what Hong Kong might become.<\/p>\n
Each painting not only draws viewers into its fine details, often best appreciated through a magnifying glass, but also through the meticulously executed, authentic period architecture, the subject of intensive research and study. In this new body of work, Fok has also perfected his technique on painting on wood and is clearly embracing this new medium \u2013 a total five pieces of wooden paneled works are the most he ever created for one exhibition.<\/p>\n
