Flee by Night is one of the two surviving acts from the play The Legend of the Precious Sword written by the Mid-Ming playwright Li Kaixian. It tells the story of Lin Chong, one of the famous 108 Liangshan heroes from the Chinese classical novel Water Margin. Lin Chong, an honourable man and the chief instructor of the Imperial Guards, was framed and persecuted by malicious court officials. He was being hunted, and had no alternatives but to join the band of Liangshan outlaws. He was so overwhelmed with desolation and frustration that he started to weep for his star-crossed destiny.<\/p>\n
Now, in the 21st Century, Danny Yung is making another adaptation of Flee by Night, allowing a historical figure to come to life on a contemporary stage. This performance is an elegy on the lingering melancholy and dejection of life, as well as a reappraisal of 450 years of theatre with all the tradition and innovation in between, showing us how resilient performing arts could be through the ages.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"template":"","location_type":[350136],"event_category":[373364,373315],"area_type":[350138],"event_language":[365762],"series":[],"event_category_other":[],"class_list":["post-1300988","event","type-event","status-publish","hentry","location_type-indoor-en","event_category-theatre-drama-en","event_category-theatre-en","area_type-local","event_language-cantonese","search-detail"],"acf":[],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.artseventsdb.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/event\/1300988","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.artseventsdb.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/event"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.artseventsdb.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/event"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.artseventsdb.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1300988"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"location_type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.artseventsdb.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/location_type?post=1300988"},{"taxonomy":"event_category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.artseventsdb.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/event_category?post=1300988"},{"taxonomy":"area_type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.artseventsdb.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/area_type?post=1300988"},{"taxonomy":"event_language","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.artseventsdb.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/event_language?post=1300988"},{"taxonomy":"series","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.artseventsdb.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/series?post=1300988"},{"taxonomy":"event_category_other","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.artseventsdb.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/event_category_other?post=1300988"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
