The librettist is the brilliant Lorenzo Da Ponte from Vienna and the composer\uff0dWolfgang Amadeus Mozart.\u00a0Mozart started on Figaro in 1785\uff0dpossibly the most productive year of composing in his whole life\uff0dand wrote the opera in six months. Set in the Chateau of Aguas Frescas in Seville, Southern Spain and performed in Italian, the original plot by Beaumarchais was considered scandalous and even banned by the Emperor in Vienna on grounds of immorality. Persuasive tongues lifted the ban in time for the first performance in Vienna on 1 May 1786.
