The witches prophesy that the heirs of Macbeth\u2019s best friend, Banquo, will become kings after Macbeth\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>Spurred on by his powerful wife and his own ambition, Macbeth murders King Duncan and seizes the throne. Macbeth has Banquo murdered but Banquo\u2019s son escapes \u2013 as does King Duncan\u2019s son, Prince Malcolm. Then Macbeth murders the wife and son of General Macduff who, in turn, wants revenge. Macduff joins Prince Malcolm in exile, where they raise an army against the usurping tyrant.<\/p>\n<p>Malcolm\u2019s army besieges Macbeth\u2019s castle. Lady Macbeth, driven inane with guilt, takes her own life.
