Story of the Broken Mirror
General Yang Yue of Sui invades the Chen Dynasty and Princess Lechang uses herself to cover for her husband’s escape. As a token for their future reunion, the princess breaks a mirror and gives one half to her husband, Xu Deyan. Yang Yue is impressed by the princess’ courage and spares her life. The princess takes on the identity as Yang’s wife and lives on.

In Suzhou, a headless female body has been discovered, and scholar Liu Ziqing and lady Su Yugui are wrongfully accused as murderers. Official Zuo Weiming learns of the injustice and comes to further investigate the case. Using a leftover embroidered shoe, Zuo is able to lure the murderer Yang Liujiao and solves the case.

“Roaming the Lake” from Legend of the White Snake
During the Song dynasty, scholar Xu Xian meets Bai Suzhen, a personified thousand-year old white snake, while visiting the West Lake. They fall in love at first sight, but for the sake of social propriety, they are unable to express their love. Xiao Qing then uses magic to conjure up a storm to bring the two lovers together.

Mu Guiying’s Marriage Proposal
General Yang Zongbao needs the “Dragon Slaying Wood” to defeat the Heaven’s Gate Formation of Liao’s army. Brigand leader Mu Guiying is seeking a husband and announces that the “Dragon Slaying Wood” would be her dowry. Zongbao loathes such arrangement and refuses the marriage. However, Guiying knows that they are pre-destined and she enslaves him. Finally Zongbao succumbs, and along with his beautiful wife, they save the country.

“Roaming the Garden” and “Chasing after the Husband” from Di Qing and Princess Shuangyang
The Liao army invades and Di Qing leads a troop to reinforce the border. Duped by a traitor, he mistakenly enters the Kingdom of Shan Shan and is captured by Princess Shuangyang. The princess admires Di’s talents, and their love quickly develops into a happy marriage. One day, Di Qing is devastated upon learning of his mother’s imprisonment back at his home country. Determined to save his mother, he deceives the princess and flees home. The princess then leads a chase after her husband.

The Yuan army has invaded south and the Song Emperor flees. Chang Da, the former commander of Chaozhou, leads a volunteer army to save the Emperor. A few months later, Zhang is in danger and his wife, Biniang, leads the remaining villagers to his rescue. Heavily outnumbered, Biniang reluctantly retreats, leaving her husband behind. Finally, Biniang sacrifices herself in order to save the villagers’ lives.

Madame She of the Yang family sends her seven sons to attend a diplomatic meeting with the Liao, and they are ambushed. Only two sons escape with old General Yang and they hide in the mountain. Qi-lang, the seventh son, is sent to ask for reinforcement from Pan Hong, but is executed on false charge.

Liu-lang, the sixth son, attempts to speak with Pan and is also wrongly accused. As he flees back to the mountain, the old general has committed suicide, and he brings the tragic news home. The Yang family seeks justice at court, but the Emperor favours Pan and so Madam She resigns. Liao army invades again and the Emperor must seek help from the Yang’s. Will Madame She consent to serving the country once more?
