Hong Kong in the 1950s. Three young women swear never to marry, pledging their lives to each other instead. Working as amahs in different homes, their paths start to diverge and their resolve is tested.

The Amahs is a tale of friendship and devotion by Roger Lee, co-writer of the award-winning film A Simple Life, and Hong Kong’s leading female playwright Wong Wing-sze, celebrated for her unique brand of humour.

Three of the most respected stage actresses – Louisa So, Alice Lau and Pang Hang-ying – travel back in time with stage director Roy Szeto, to bring back an overlooked chapter of this city’s history as it emerges from postwar poverty to economic boom in the 1970s, witnessed by the laughter and tears of the amahs.

Experience reality television-style democracy that hands power to the spectator!

Thoroughly political, but never explicitly so, Fight Night reveals the reasons and motivations that compel voters to vote.

A must-see company on today’s international theatre circuit for its immersive, full-on performance style, Belgium’s extraordinary Ontroerend Goed has teamed up with Australia’s The Border Project for this reflection on democracy, elections, and political manipulation. Fight Night asks why we cling to our democratic institutions despite their failures, and what the alternatives might look like.

In a game show format, five ‘candidates’ battle to get your sympathy and your vote. Only one will survive the series of elimination contests. Along the way – campaigns coalitions, exit polls, spin doctors, the whole panoply of a modern election.

Exciting and totally engaging, this is reality theatre, live and unique to the moment. Every performance is bound to be different, because the vote is yours. But do you really have free choice?

Not I / Footfalls / Rockaby

A critically acclaimed hot ticket at London’s Royal Court Theatre and subsequently in the West End, these three Beckett monologues feature one of the most astonishing performances you will ever experience.

Not I is set in total darkness, illuminated by one single beam of light. A disembodied female mouth floats above the stage and delivers a torrential stream of consciousness, spoken as Beckett directed, “at the speed of thought”.

Footfalls is a melancholic tale of burden and trauma; the story of May, a ghostly, middle-aged woman who paces back and forth on a bare landing outside her dying mother’s door.

Probably the most famous of Beckett’s late works, Rockaby explores loneliness and loss as a woman sits in her rocking chair recounting moments from her past.

In a direct line to Beckett, his long time friend and stage collaborator, Walter Asmus directs. The brilliant theatre, film and television actress, Lisa Dwan, brings these compassionate works to life with overwhelming empathy and truth. Lisa was coached by Billie Whitelaw for her role in Not I.
