Hailed as one of the most exciting composers of her generation, Angel Lam’s work has been embraced by many of the world’s most prominent performers. Her composition Empty Mountain, Spirit Rain, commissioned by Carnegie Hall, has been performed on Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble’s worldwide tours since 2007; the work was also featured on the CD Off the Map, which was recently nominated for a 2011 Grammy Award.

Blending storytelling with an expressive emotional soundscape that reflects a passion for life, June Lovers tells a lyrical love story through semi-staged scenes, deeply felt songs and narration. Female and male vocalists will engage in expressive, moving coloratura songs, as well as rap and rock vocal styles, weaving together an intriguing story of marriage attitudes in China and their profound effects on the ascent and decay of a society.

The comedy of love, manners and mistaken identity

Come and laugh – for the first time or the umpteenth – at Wilde’s dazzling wit, eat the cucumber sandwiches especially prepared for Lady Bracknell and – yes – be shocked to hear of a baby found in a handbag

Undisputedly one of the finest comedic plays in the history of theatre, The Importance of Being Earnest is Oscar Wilde at his most witty, brilliantly inventive and socially observant. The remarkable wordplay is timeless and is perfectly delivered in this stunning production by London’s Rose Theatre Kingston which continues to draw accolades under the artistic directorship of Stephen Unwin.

Wilde’s play follows the antics of two young gentlemen who create false personas so they can escape their otherwise humdrum lives and live with carefree abandon. However, the resulting romantic entanglements become ever more complicated. Utterly hilarious, this is an unmissable opportunity to see a great British masterpiece come to life on stage.

1 Robot + 2 Men = 70 minutes of stunning feats of physical theatre

“Once again Aurélien Bory comes up with magic, wit and a ton of ideas. A contemporary take on Chaplin’s Modern Times.” Le Figaro, France

“Astonishing and harmonious meeting of technology and artistry.” La Dépêche, France

Who is the machine? Who is the man?

France’s enfant terrible of theatre, whose works defy convention, presents a visually sophisticated and beautifully physical production in which a huge industrial robotic arm takes centre stage and intertwines organically with two human actors.

From the moment the robot is unveiled until the shattering climax, man and machine alternately wrestle and toy with one another in a power struggle awash with humour, spectacular acrobatics and eventually a foreboding mechanical dominance. By the show’s end the robot still moves with ease, but the two human performers become more clipped, almost like toy robots themselves.

The imagery evokes classic science fiction – stimulating entertainment that also raises fascinating questions about humanity’s future.
