Time Of My Life

This work deals mainly with our capacity to look at ourselves in a cynical way; in particular, our obsession with external beauty and our ability to laugh at ourselves. During the creative process, we were inspired by the ideas of self-sacrifice, love, giving, lightness, fear, disappointment, the ego, identity and others.
As we began the creative process for TOML, we borrowed from a previous work, DU-K, which dealt with the subject of “coexistence” and was a collaboration between SOL Dance Company and BJCDT from Beijing. During the rehearsals for TOML, the themes intensified and we began delving into deeper questions about the differences between our two cultures. That led us into an extraordinary and collaborative evolution, until we arrived at a work that had been completely transformed into a unique form.

The intersection of × is where the force of interaction is located. It is a core constructed by two objects attracted to each other. The angles, weight and external forces are key factors in maintaining balance, just as they are in relationships between people in daily life. Balancing is an approach to a place between boundaries, and it’s up to you whether or not to keep it.

On How The Case Caused A Curious Motif:
In the first half, the reasons behind our actions and speech that are rational as well as absurd are explored in an attempt to measure the small amount of delirium we occasionally experience.

Without Words:
“I would explain but I have forgotten the words.” This line by Jin Dynasty poet Tao Yuanming expresses how we feel when complex emotions arise but we are unable to voice them. We are lost for words. This situation is depicted in the second half, Without Words. Without a story being told, the audience is immersed in the atmosphere created by the dancers, who use their bodies to express such complex emotions, one by one.

Heaven Behind the Door II
If everyone can preserve their own sanctuary, in the light and the shadows of uncertainty, how far could we go? Would we be able to find our own place in the end?
Heaven Behind the Door II is Chloe WONG’s latest work. It was created during recent years in Hong Kong when the youth and other citizens began courageously to speak up for freedom. It questions how one’s beliefs and rights are challenged and combines dance, text, sound, light projection, and scenographic concepts.

Mo Ngaan Tai
Naked, uncovered and undisguised – perhaps this is all that can be seen on the stage. When bodies are the only medium, what is the connection between the audience and the dancers, exposing their naked sculptural bodies to the air? Speechless communication? A long-searched-for echo? Or apathetic examination?
The selected generation of the times, something we cannot deny. Some scream and shout; some run away; some enjoy themselves; while others seek stability.
When each individual entity stands alone, what does harmony in diversity mean? Thousands of millions of people thinking like each other or seeking harmony while embracing their different ways of thinking? Perhaps, when topics like sex, freedom and human rights are no longer considered taboo by society, harmony in diversity will truly arrive.

“Wreck – List of Extinct Species”

“WRECK-List of Extinct Species” is an interdisciplinary performance merging movement, sound and visual art. A large, inflated, pillow-like sculpture made of black plastic moves in the space like a hunter. This abstract object possesses an intense evocative power. As it swallows and spits out people, it may be considered to represent an undersea monster, like the legendary Leviathan, or equally it could be a metaphor for capitalism or the human condition. It has the power to amplify the viewer’s imagination, multiplying associations and conceptual layers.
