“War and Never-ending Love”

Sheh Tong Pass is under siege. As her father Sheh Hung is too proud to seek help from Yeung Kwan, Choi-fa asks her maid Pai Wan to send a letter to Kwan’s son Gai-yip for help. After the crisis, the old men settle all the grudges, and the young ones also admire each other. When both the Yeung and Sheh soldiers go hunting up in the mountain, Gai-yip and Choi-fa fall for each other.
Thus, Kwan proposes marriage for his son to Hung. However, the Dowager has bestowed Choi-fa’s marriage upon Suen Kin’s son Yim. And there arises misunderstanding when Choi-fa visits Gai-yip to find a solution. Hung then resorts to choosing his son-in-law through martial arts contest. During the fight, Choi-fa first defeats Yim and then fakes a loss to Gai-yip to avoid a mismatch. Kin is infuriated and Chui Ying-lung takes the opportunity to incite disharmony among the three General Families.
Being misled to believe that Gai-yip beats up her father and kills her younger brother, Choi-fa chases after him to the Seven-Stars Temple but is caught in his trap. Finally, Kin discloses Yinglung’s dirty deed after intercepting his letter of treason. Due to the revelation of the truth and the Suns’ willingness to abandon the marriage arrangement, Choi-fa and Gai-yip can get married in the end

“The Heroes and the Beauty”

The King of Northern Qi invades Wei, and violates Concubine Wei. He then dies suddenly after Concubine Wei gives birth to twins, a boy and a girl. When the jealous Queen intends to kill Concubine Wei and the twins, Choi-ha and Yong Chun take them to flee the palace. Kwok Sai-fan is then ennobled for killing Concubine Wei. Choi-ha adopts Princess Fung-lin as her niece and earns their living by selling medicine in the streets while Yong Chun adopts Prince Yuk-lung as his son. As a grown-up, Fung-lin loves both Chiu Kam-lung the outlander and Yuk-lung. At first, she chooses to marry Chiu Kam-lung. However, learning that Yuk-lung becomes The Queen of Northern Qi’s foster son, Fung-lin finally decides to be Yuk-lung’s wife, in order to avenge her mother.
Taunted and angered by Yuk-lung, Kam-lung, who actually is the Crown Prince of Chiu, goes home and leads his troops to attack Qi. Before the wedding night, Yuk-lung is defeated and wounded at the battlefield.
Kam-lung intrudes into the palace and sees Choi-ha who clears the misunderstandings between the lovers. And when Kam-lung tries to kill Yuk-lung, Chun stops him by exposing the identity of the twins. After the reunited brother and sister kill the Queen and Sai-fan, they regain control of the country.

“Goddess of the Luo River”

Tso Zik and Yan Fuk are in love. However, Tso Cho wants to make Zik his successor, so he chooses Chan Tak Chu to be Zik’s wife instead of Fuk for her being a captive. He further marries Fuk to Tso Pei, brother of Zik, to quench Zik’s aection
for Fuk. On the wedding night, Pei, under the pretense of drunkenness, unleashes his hatred and jealousy towards Zik. Overwhelmed with worries about Zik’s safety, Fuk falls into Pei’s trap by asking Zik to meet her in private. As a result, Zik is exiled to Linzi.
After Tso Cho has died, Pei becomes the king. He begins to purge his brothers to secure his rule. After the failure to summon Zik back to the capital, Pei forces Fuk to write to urge Zik to return with the excuse that the Queen Dowager misses him. On the Copper Bird Terrace, Pei orders Zik to compose a poem within seven steps. If he fails, Zik will be sentenced to death for his undeserved fame. To Pei’s surprise, Zik accomplishes this challenging task with Fuk’s encouragement. After hacking a foot o, a clay tripod cauldron to illustrate how helpless Pei will be without his brothers, Fuk drowns herself into the Luo River. Mourning her by the River, Zik dreams of Fuk ascending to the heaven and becomes the Goddess of the Luo River.

“Insulting Zhou Yu Thrice”

Liu Bei borrowed the Jing Province from Eastern Wu, but the King of Eastern Wu, Sun Quan, soon regrets and asks him to return at once. Liu Bei claims he will return it after conquering Xichuan, which he never really plans to.
Zhou Yu, the supreme general of Eastern Wu, is furious at Liu Bei’s act, hence plans to siege Jing Province. He sends troops to Jing Province and claims that those are the troops he sent to helpLiu Bei conquer Xichuan. Just before he thinks he will succeed, he is surrounded by Liu Bei’s army and gets kicked out hard. Filled with regret and fury, he dies soon after that.

“Death of a Loyal Warrior”

The incompetence of the emperor of the Ming Dynasty causes domestic troubles and aggravates external threats. The family of General Zhong Yujun, who is guarding the frontier, is loyal to the country. His elder son, Xiaoquan, is skilled in both civil and military affairs. Suspecting the emperor’s father-in-law of having secret dealings with Xiliao, Xiaoquan waits for his twin brother Xioyi to find out the truth through spying on him. Thinking that Xiaoquan is too cowardly to fight, the general orders him to lead the troops to the battlefield. Tipped off about an ambush against Xiaoquan, Xiaoyi hastens to his brother’s rescue. Despite his best efforts, Xiaoquan is defeated, and further encounters an ambush. Fortunately, the dispatch arrives in time to rescue him.

The emperor’s father-in-law speaks ill of Xiaoquan, so the emperor orders him to return to the capital immediately or be court-martialed. The emperor’s father-in-law arrives with a gold plate that signies the emperor’s order and threatens to put Xiaoquan’s entire family to death unless he returns. At his audience with the incompetent emperor, Xiaoquan loses his post because of the father-in-law’s slander. His father, also fooled by the rumour that his son’s recklessness is the cause of the invasion, raises his sabre to Xiaoquan. The emperor’s father-in-law comes with an order from the emperor to execute Xiaoquan. Although Xiaoyi has nally secured evidence of the father-in-law’s treachery, it is too late-his brother has been executed. Xiaoyi kills the culprit with his sabre to avenge his brother’s death.

Kneeling by the Pond from The Outburst of a Shrew
The prefecture Chan Gwai-sheung has always been hen-pecked, but one day while he is invited to hang out with his friend So Tung-po, he meets another lady, and gets engaged with her right away. His wife Lau Yuk-ngo is furious and beats Gwai-sheung with a rosewood stick and orders him to kneel and repent by a willowy pond Flooding the Gold Mountain Temple from The Legend of the White Snake Bai Suzhen, the white snake, falls in love with scholar Xu Xian. The two get married with Xiaoqing the green snake as their matchmaker. Monk Fahai traps Xu Xian at Jinshan Temple. Suzhen and Xiaoqing beg Fahai to release Xu Xian, but are subdued by celestial soldiers. Suzhen is determined to ᝠght back and 3oods Jinshan Temple with water. Yet, she is not strong enough because she is pregnantÝ Excerpts from Forty Years of Cherished Love Poet Lu You marries his cousin, Tang Wan. His mother thinks that Tang Wan will bring black luck to her son and so she forces the two to separate, which they strenuously resist. Lu You’s mother prevails, and the two lovers end up marrying other people.
Three years later, the former spouses meet again in the Shen Garden. When Tang Wan toasts Lu You, mixed feelings well up in their hearts. On a wall, Lu You writes a poem titles “Phoenix Hairpin”. Shortly after the encounter, Tang Wan dies of grief.
Forty years later, Lu revisits the old place and weeps over the poem, reminiscing his beautiful wife who has passed away.
