TAM KAI (HUNTING THE CHICKEN)
Tam Kai (Hunting the Chicken) is a new dance performance that asks dancers to respond to the virtuoso Kraw Nai Tang Tawada piece played by the renowned ranad ek (alto xylophone) master, Boonyoung Katkong.
Kraw Nai Tang Tawada is typically done as a solo ranad ek performance, allowing a master to show his skill, experience, intelligence, and creativity. Here, the music serves to challenge participants, demanding their creative responses to the music’s powerful and fast-paced rhythms. The movements spontaneously reflect both an ephemeral and an eternal “present” that arises from each of use as each of participant directly respond to the mighty musical energy in a unique way.

Would you like a bowl of tea一服いかがですか?
The PopUp Tearoom Series is a durational performance and site-specific installation. Audiences are invited to sit and have a bowl of green tea and the pop-up performances will be happening in the various time.
Traditionally, tea-ceremony rooms had a small door which visitors bowed to enter, dropping the hierarchies of the world outside. In times of war, Medieval Samurai had to leave their swords outside as the tearoom provided relief from the emotional stress and social disorder of the battlefield. Curious about what sort of ‘Tea’ we can make today, Umiumare invokes the Japanese notion of ‘ma’ or ‘active pause’ to explore deep presence in spaces that can be simultaneously reflective and provocative.
One of the central moral values of tea is: 一期一会 (ichi-go ichi-e), which means, “Treasure every encounter, for it will never recur” “Live every day as though it were last”
The Pop-Up Tearoom series that has been experimented in Japan, Germany, Czech Republic, Malaysia, Philippines, Festival of Live Arts in Melbourne and most recently in Los Palos in Timor-Leste. You can enter, encounter, enjoy, and embrace something unknown at the tearoom where you can get lost in the TEA space!
