National Youth Orchestra of The United States of America
Over 110 top young American musicians have been chosen by Carnegie Hall to form the third annual National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA). Virtuoso conductor Charles Dutoit and acclaimed pianist YUNDI will team up with the outstanding ensemble to perform in New York before embarking on a historic first tour to China this summer. The visit includes performances in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong.;Dutoit, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Conductor Laureate of the Philadelphia Orchestra, is renowned for his polished style in conducting the world’s greatest orchestras and soloists. Hailed as the “Prince of the Piano”, YUNDI is not only a celebrated exponent of Chopin’s music, but also a remarkable Beethoven interpreter. Another highlight will be a new commissioned work by award-winning composer Tan Dun. Brought together with the effervescent NYO-USA, this unparalleled combination of talent is set to deliver a truly mesmerising concert for all ages.

The Magic Flute Playground
Inspired by Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute, anime character Woody Woody Wood appears as a story-telling big brother in this singing and dancing carnival, guiding early learners to observe and use their imagination to explore the world of classical music through puppetry and animation. Pop musicians inject modern motifs and children’s songs into the famous work, providing a delightful way for the very young and adults to become acquainted with western opera and find resonance in the beauty and goodness of Mozart’s music.

The Forest of Grimm
A little fairy leads the way into an enchanted forest where Sleeping Beauty, the Frog Prince, Tom Thumb, the Wicked Queen, and other famous characters from Grimm’s Fairy Tales await. However, in this unspoken, music-rich reinterpretation of the familiar stories, the world view appears a little different. Here, a dwarf eats Snow White’s poisoned apple, and Little Red Riding Hood makes friends with the Big Bad Wolf!
With Ravel’s evocative Mother Goose Suite, specifically written for children, at its heart and dextrous use of puppets, projections, and ingenious props, La Maquiné melds harmony, humour and eyecatching images into a tapestry of emotive scenes and magical happenings. A poetic and inspiring journey into a universe beyond words.

How High The Sky
Polyglot worked with highly experienced artists as collaborators and with babies and parents in developing this performance. The performing team comes from backgrounds of dance, physical theatre and physical improvisation, and music composition, and brings a breadth of knowledge and skills to this unusual performance task. The sounds in the space are manipulated live, drawing in the cries and calls of the babies and voices of the parents to create a living soundscape.

As depicted in a unique genre called wuxia fiction, it also conjures up a mystical, chivalrous world of heroes doing battle against villainy.
