Prime Minister Wang Yun has three daughters. The eldest, Jinchuan, is the wife of Su Long; the second daughter, Yinchuan, is married to Wei Hu. The father holds an event to choose a husband for his youngest daughter Baochuan, in which Baochuan stands on a tall facade to toss a brocade ball. Whoever catches the ball will become her husband. The ball is caught by the downtrodden Xue Pinggui. Wang Yun refuses to marry his daughter to the poor Pinggui. Yet Baochuan insists on honoring the outcome of the ball toss. Disowned by her father, Baochuan sets out after Pinggui. The couple gets married under the witness of Zhu Yisheng and makes their home in a cold cave.

A wild red steed, sent as tribute from Siberia, comes to the Emperor. As no one is able to tame the wild horse except Pinggui, the Emperor assigns him to the logistics command. However, Wang Yun interferes, and instead convinces the Emperor to make Pinggui a foot soldier in the front guard. Learning that he is about to be deployed, Pinggui hurries back to the cave to bid farewell. Baochuan vows to be loyal to her husband. After receiving three successive commands for Pinggui to report for duty, the couple is forced to part in sadness.

Pinggui has left home for 18 years and not a single word is heard from him. Madame Wang asks Baochuan to get back home but in vain. Hearing the rumors that Pinggui is missing during the war in Siberia, Baochuan sends a letter to him with an anser. On the other hand, Pinggui is framed by Yi Fu and exiled in Siberia. Luckily the Siberia Princess saves his life and invites him to be her husband. Receiving the letter from Baochuan, Pinggui learns about the plight of his wife and plans to return to the mainland. The princess asks Pinggui to bring Baochuan to Siberia. Encountering Baochuan at Wujia Hill, Pinggui tests the loyalty of his wife and finally meets her at the cold cave. Pinggui and Baochuan are honored and crowned at Siberia, leading their happy life together.

The Impetuous Generals

Wen Cuijun’s father is implicated by a corrupted court official and she resorted to hide with the Xiao family. The evening before the battle between Chu and Qi, Cuijun and General Liu Xiaotian engage. However, Xiao YueE also wishes to express her love to Xiaotian but she get drunk and is violated by Luo Wenlong, a spy and also a prince from Kingdom Chu. While Chou Shangyi was taking a break from the military camp, Lady Chou forced him to marry YueE, but the bride gives birth on the wedding day. Cuijun claims the baby is hers in order to save YueE and is force to be banished. Shangyi reveals to YueE that he is injured during the battle and had become impotent and promises the marriage is only for show. In the battlefield, Wenlong is rescued by Cuijun and he makes her a General Commander to fight against Xiaotian. Cuijun wins and Xiaotian is captured. Xiaotian is tried within the camp of Kingdom Chu and YueE insisted that Xiaotian is the father of her baby. Luckily, Lady Chou is able to prove her wrong by the dripping blood method. Wenlong finally admit that YueE’s baby was his. Xiaotian’s name is clear and he reunites with Cuijun.

A Dream In Yangzhou

Songstress Liwen from Yangzhou is extraordinarily talented and beautiful, but also frigid and proud. Someone poisons her because of this, causing her to go blind. Her lover, the hero Liu Yulong, also loses his sight after being poisoned by an enemy. General Song Wenhua proposes to Liwen, but she refuses. Liwen’s half sister loves Wenhua, however, and Liwen successfully matches the two. Yulong’s brother,Yuhu, steals the snow lotus, an imperial treasure, which eventually cures the blindness of both Yulong and Liwen, but in the process makes the lovers torn apart.

Three years later, Yulong and Liwen’s blindness is cured. A feudal lord, Wei, adopts Liwen and makes her his princess, called Fengping, to show his appreciation of her talent and beauty. Yulong passes the imperial examination and is appointed prefect. An upright imperial censor has him secretly investigate Wei to uncover a traitorous plot. Having become bandits, Yulong’s brother Yuhu and Wenhua meet Yulong and Liwen again. They reunite and plan together to bring the feudal lord to justice. Former general Song is reinstated to his previous post on account of his meritorious service. Yulong marries Liwen, and Wenhua marries Liwen’s half sister.
