This is a children’s musical theatre. The story tells how children who, from an early age, are taught to be honest by their parents may feel puzzled when they grow up and find there are more and more ‘grey areas’ and ‘white lies’ in their daily life.

After each performance, there will be a stage tour to arouse students’ interest in theatre and live performances.

Tearless Honour 2014

Tearless Honour 2014 is a soul-touching and romantic revelation set in the era of the Sino-Japanese War, Chinese Civil War, and the military expansion of Japan. The main character is a young man turning 18. He is enlightened and heated, and acts to struggle, but is depressed and falls to the bottom. Through reflection and enquiry, he achieves ultimate maturity. Faced with separation, death, betrayal, cowardice and destruction, he arrives at new and deep understanding of love, passion and compassion: between two persons, within a family, and of a nation. Finally, he makes the most important decision of his life to continue his struggle.

Music Office “ The Animal Party” Wind Music Concert

“The Animal Party” is a grand concert on the theme of animals. From ancient to modern times, many composers around the world have attempted to depict different forms of birds and beasts in music or render various animal sounds into beautiful and touching melodies, thereby enriching the world of music. A wind band comprises a wide range of musical instruments, each with its own characteristics, including glittering brass instruments as well as woodwind and percussion instruments made of wood and different materials. The Music Office Instructors Wind Ensemble has selected for the concert a number of musical works which enjoy great popularity, such as the joyous and festive “Carnival of the Animals”, the lovely and funny “Cat Waltz” and the well-known Guangdong music “Pacing Horses in the Countryside in Spring”. Through the performance of these famous lively works by musicians, it seems as if the audience is in a fabulous animal party.

Music and dance are inseparable in the world of Western art. A variety of dance genres and styles have been developed under the influence of different racial and cultural backgrounds. Over the ages, composers have created numerous heart-touching classical works for different types of dances. This concert features an assortment of dance music in different eras all over the world. It aims to present to the audience the distinctive cultures of different races through the performance of passionate and rhythmic music. In the concert, the Music Office Instructors’ String Orchestra will play a number of classical works on dance written by famous composers such as Antonín Dvořák, Béla Bartók, Franz Schubert and Johann Strauss Jr.

Music Office “Music Carnival” Wind Music Concert (In Cantonese)

The word carnival originates from a religious festive season which typically involves public celebrations and parades. Nowadays, it has become a byword for various parties and activities, while magic is associated with mysterious supernatural forces such as witchcraft and sorcery.

The wind orchestra includes a wide array of musical instruments, ranging from glittering brasses to woodwinds made of wood and different metals. This concert will showcase magic-related musical pieces from different eras and regions, including Robert W. Smith’s The Winds of Poseidon specially created for a wind orchestra, which is based on the ancient Greek fairy tale Odyssey; Ruslan and Lyudmila Overture adapted from the Russian leading composer Glinka’s touching opera, which depicts a magical love story; the soundtrack for the animated film Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea directed by the Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki, which tells the story of a mermaid transforming herself into a human being, and many more.

2014 is the Chinese Year of the Horse. Horses are closely linked with the history and lives of humans. In Chinese culture, horses are men’s loyal companions, representing some sort of noble sentiments. There are also many music works connected with horses. In this concert, a selection of works on the theme of horse will be performed. Through the brief introduction in the concert, students may know more about the instruments commonly used in modern Chinese music ensembles.
