PPS Danse [Canada]
Openness, creativity, humanism, sharing and commitment are the driving forces behind the company’s activities. These values are embodied not only in the production of original choreographic works, but also in PPS Danse’s involvement in the democratization of contemporary dance.
Since it was founded in 1989 by choreographer, performer and director Pierre-Paul Savoie (1955-2021), PPS Danse’s mission has been to devote itself mainly to the creation and production of choreographic works that are part of the interdisciplinary field. Over the years, the company has added cultural mediation to its activities. Today, by investing in the three major niches of young audiences, the general public and cultural action, PPS Danse ensures its position as a pillar in Quebec’s dance community.
The company’s artistic approach is based on the principle of encounter: between artists, artistic materials and languages, works, communities and audiences. PPS Danse explores a variety of meeting grounds, all of which converge towards the same goal: to allow discovery and cultivate a taste for dance in young and adult audiences.
The company’s repertoire includes some thirty works. PPS Danse has given more than 850 performances in over fifteen countries in America, Europe and Asia. Regardless of the creative cycle to which they belong, these productions are all marked by a multidisciplinary form and humanity in their content.
In 2020, Pierre-Paul Savoie redefined his status within the company by sharing the artistic direction with David Rancourt, a long-time collaborator and accomplice who now assumes its direction. In honouring the historical vision and giving precedence to an open creative structure, PPS Danse reaffirms its position putting forward exchange and sharing.
