Yao Yueh Chinese Music Association

Yao Yueh Chinese Music Association was formed in 1974 and registered as a non-profit organization in April 1977. The orchestra under the Association is one of the community orchestras having the longest history in Hong Kong. Under the leadership of the Music Director – Professor Leung Chi-cheung, the orchestra performs actively in recent years. Since its establishment, the orchestra has performed over one hundred performances including perform at the Singapore National Theatre, Singapore Concert Hall, Zhongshan Grand Theater of the Culture and Art Center and etc. The Association is committed to promote local culture. It has performed two special sessions for music pieces by local composers, including the “Victoria Harbour: the Sleepless City at Night” and “Starry Night” concerts, and has commissioned local composers to write new works. With the objectives of advocating the quintessence of Chinese culture and promoting Chinese music, the orchestra has collaborated with famous musicians and performing groups in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Its outstanding performances were well recognized and have attracted sponsorship from various public and private organizations such as Hong Kong Arts Development Council, CASH Music Fund, Cultural Exchange Project of the Home Affairs Bureau, Jockey Club Performing Arts Venue Subsidy Scheme, Tai Po District Council, Canada-HK New Horizon Lions Club etc. The Association aims to promote local music and musicians through performing works by local composers, and inviting local artists and performing groups to collaborate in performance. Build on the Chinese heritage, the Association is adding new favour and creativity for the future development of Chinese music in Hong Kong. “YY PopUp”is one of the significant milestone for YYCMA to achieve it.
