The Pelicans

Introduction

In summer 2014, a group of music lovers and singers from Hong Kong attended the World Choir Game InRiga, Latvia. The first event on arrival was to attend a concert by the King’s Singers in the evening. It was a stunning performance, and the post-concert reception with the King’s Singers in person especially Paul Phoenix who was about to retire from singing with the group for 2,000 concerts in 17 years was remarkable.
This inspired 3 members of the group namely John Li, Raymond Fu and Colin Lau to form an a Capella group in January 2015. The group was later called “The Pelicans”because pelican is a symbol of Christ our Redeemer as it was reputed to feed its young with its own blood to save them from death, just like our Saviour shed His blood to save us from death eternal. The Pelicans is therefore not only dedicated to making good music but to support charitable events through singing.
The Pelicans, as a group, is still at its infancy. After its public debut in July 2015 featuring the founding 6 male members, they have added female members in a bid to take the group to a new level. In May 2016, they performed in the Opera Fever4ever concert organized by the Opera Society of Hong Kong and they also appeared in the fund raising concert for Ladakh school organised Live to Love.
