Hong Kong Western Dance Council

Introduction

Hong Kong Western Dance Council (HKWDC) was established in Hong Kong in 2001. It affiliated with The International Dance Council – CID UNESCO and Association of Hong Kong Dance Organizations.
In 2001, the first examination took place in Hong Kong for the ISTD Country/Western Dance Professional Examination and the first group of teachers passed the examination successfully and joined in HKWDC, it took the lead in organising the Western Line Dance Teachers’ Courses with emphasis on the ISTD Syllabus in Hong Kong in 2001. Our teachers have been recommended to sit for examinations of the ISTD since 2001. Another important activity of HKWDC is the organisation and development of a series of dance examinations. Since its inception, HKWDC has organised the Western Line Dance Teachers’ Course every year. As of today, HKWDC is proud to organize the 22th HKWDC Western Line Dance Teacher’s Certificate Course in 2014. The objective of HKWDC is to diffuse and promote the Western Dances (including Western Line Dance, Latin Line Dance, Partner Round Dance, Couples Freestyle, Salsa Dance, Ceroc/ LeRoc/ Modern-Jive Dance, Wedding Dance, Ballroom & Latin Dance etc.) in Hong Kong, unite local dancers and consolidate liaison between dance groups, education organisations and government bodies to organise dance performances, workshops and activities. It also aims to arouse students’ interest and stretch their potential in dancing. “Dance with Health” is our slogan. As of today, HKWDC has about over 750 professional members.
