Hong Kong International Cello Association

Introduction

Hong Kong International Cello Association (HKICA) is a registered non-profit organization. It is established by a group of outstanding young cellists in 2005. The association aims at promoting the cello through a variety of performing activities such as interflows and concerts. In 2006 summer, the HKICA became the co-presenter of “The 2nd National Ai Qin Bei Cello Competition” which was jointly presented by the Chinese Musician Association Cello Society and the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.

Since its establishment, the association has been exploring various forms of performance and educational activities to suit the taste of different types of audience. For example, the association successfully held an educational concert for families in 2008, “Cello Carnival”, which introduced the instrument, its music and performing possibilities in a fun and relaxing environment. In 2009, the association will add new performing opportunities for both adults and children cellists in its “My Cello Journey Series”, on top of the popular ensemble class which approaches its 4th season. Also, the association is again Invited by LCSD, the government of HKSAR, to host the “Entering the World of the Cello” in March 2009 after its first success in 2007.
