Elegance Society Dance Troupe
The Elegance Society Dance Troupe has been set up in Hong Kong for over 30 years. Mr. Law Yiu Wai is now the Artistic Director and instructor of the Troupe. Over the years, the Troupe has achieved numerous awards in various dance competitions. Its outstanding pieces such as “Horse Herdsman’s Song”, “Song of the Sea”, “Xinjiang Plate Dance”, The Phoenix and The Thorny Path were awarded with the “Outstanding Award” while creative dances “Sen ji De Ma”, “Impressions of Tianshan-Autumn” and dance drama “Giving Sword” received “Outstanding Work” commendations in the first, second and third Hong Kong Chinese Dance Creation Competitions. Over the years, the Troupe has been actively participated and established itself in the local dance scene such as organizing a series of dance showcase including “Giving Sword” in 1989, the Legend of Matouqin in 1992, Oriental Rainbow in 1996, Poetry in Motion in 2000 and Dreams in Rhythm in 2008. In 2001, the Troupe was invited to participate in the 2nd National Ethnic Minority Groups Art Performance in Beijing with the piece Joy at Timar River receiving the Outstanding Performance Award. One of our dancers also awarded with the “Best Dancer”. In 2006, the Troupe representing Hong Kong to join the 2006 China (Changsu) Sunhoo International Folklore Festival held in Jiangsu province. The Troupe has regularly contributed their efforts and taken part in all major performances organized by the Association of Hong Kong Dance Organisations including Fragrance-A Dance Poem on Hong Kong (1998), Igniting Hearts: Legend of the Orient (2002), The Golden Silk Road (2004) and Our Home, Our Story (2006).
