Redefining Reality
The “Redefining Reality” exhibition showcases the large-scale public art installation Resonance-In-Sight co-created by local artists Kristof Crolla and Garvin Goepel, with the intention to soften the boundaries between virtual reality and physical reality. The two appealing linear sculptures open the dialogue with one another and the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) through augmented reality (AR) technology.
The art installation consists of both a physical and a virtual component. With the tailor-made AR application, visitors can interact with the special selection of HKMoA’s four core collections. The collections are presented in extraordinary forms connecting the resonating sculptures. Using the 4 Instagram (IG) Filters, visitors can immerse themselves into the Resonance-In-Sight in multiple perspectives. We hope this exhibition will inspire you to enjoy interactive elements spanning art, design, technology, and communication. You are welcome to visit and experience 16 AR artworks (4 Phases) at the Best Viewing Spots at Art Square.

HKartsFestival@TaiKwun: Aqueous
Back by popular demand, US artist Jen Lewin (Super Pool, the 45th HKAF in 2017), returns to the Festival with a new artwork, Aqueous.
Aqueous is an interactive landscape of meandering pathways of light. During the day, the sculpture shifts in colour and reflection, mirroring the sky. At night, Aqueous glows in full illuminated interactivity, engaging groups in an ever-changing landscape that promotes community interaction and discovery.
Inspired by the symmetry in natural systems, Aqueous, composed of hundreds of interactive modular platforms, is one of the first pattern-based sculptures created on this scale. Each platform is controlled by code written by the artist, allowing them to sense human interaction individually, but also to link to each other to create interconnected pathways of light effects.

Tools of the Trade Theme exhibition
Tools of the Trade frames the history of street art and graffiti through the lens of the tools that artists use to create their work. Dating back to the mid 1950s and up to today, the exhibition includes everything from markers, spray cans and stickers, to DIY mops, stencils, stamps, paste ups, and fire extinguishers, to more technological tools like drones and laser guided projection. It is an attempt to highlight the wide range of tools used throughout history, their evolution, and the ingenuity of the artists that make and use them.

In Just a Blink of an Eye
In Just a Blink of an Eye (2005/2021) is one of the most significant artworks by Xu Zhen, a leading figure in Chinese contemporary art. In Just a Blink of an Eye explores the notion of temporality, freezing time and space by portraying a human figure that appears suspended mid-fall through means kept out of the visible eye—for hours at a time. In the presence of the work, we experience how it must feel to have time stand still, urging us to contemplate questions of personal existence and the constructed reality of the viewing experience.
Xu’s conceptually-driven works encompass a vast range of media and often employ humour, irony, and sophisticated optical illusion and deception. With In Just a Blink of an Eye, the audience waits for movement and the presumably inevitable moment the figure will either stand up or fall to the ground. Yet, as the moment of suspension stretches on, they instead experience time and stillness.
