Fear and Trembling is a one woman show presented by the French artist Layla Metssitane based on the famous Novel “Stupeur et tremblement” written by the Belgium Novelist Amélie Nothomb.
Winter 1990. In Brussels, Amélie Nothomb has finished her studies in medieval roman philology. She decides to travel back to Japan in order to work, a country she knows since she was born there. She gets a one year work contract for the prestigious Yumimoto company. This job, more than she hope for, will bring her many surprises, from which she will learn various lessons…

Collecting her in-depth interviews published by Stock under “Je ne renie rien”, Caroline Loeb weaves a monologue in which the author of “Bonjour Tristesse” shows her kindness, ferocious intelligence and subtle humour.
With her moving, funny, lucid and tenacious spirit, Sagan speaks of her absolute love for literature, of the fragility of men, of the importance of desire, of her disdain for money, of her passion for gambling and of death in ambush.
Teaming once again with Alex Lutz as a director, Caroline Loeb plays in an astonishing way the role of this life enthusiast, always on the edge of danger.

A society’s discards – useless husks of its lifestyle – a leftover cardboard carton: from this, the choreographer and the musician begin to construct a fragile entity that ends up being their own stage set. A carousel, a stage and a dance floor resemble a huge turntable. The musician cranks it up, it becomes the display apparatus, and the characters themselves can no longer recognise the border between voluntary and involuntary exposure.

The two Swiss artists, Zimmermann and de Perrot, have invented their own language, in which simple, powerful images come not from words, but from sound and movement. Over the past decade, they have established themselves in their own vibrant art, going beyond conventional frameworks. The power of their art derives from intense, ongoing dialogue, and is further strengthened by their artistic collaboration. They are the directors of the show and the originators of the music, choreography and set design. The piece is full of humour, sometimes absurd and always poetic.

The music theatre work talks about Vladimir Nabokov, Dmitri Shostakovich and Josef Stalin. By looking at these three men and in connection with Nabokov’s autobiography “Speak, Memory”, the performance explores the relationship between childhood memories, butterflies and chess, as well as power and art, through music, speech, images and theatrical movements. Members of the box Kung Chi-shing and Peter Suart, who are both directors, composers and musicians, will collaborate with Japanese musical and theatrical performer Mariko Ogawa, Kung’s daughter Chiara and a string quartet from the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble. Together they will offer the audience a multi-directional sensory theatre experience.

The story takes the audience back to 1917, when the Bolshevik Revolution convulsed Russia and led to a bloody civil war. Nabokov and his family fled in 1919; Shostakovich stayed. Following the death of Lenin, Stalin consolidated his power. Nabokov travelled across Europe, and then around the United States, like a restless butterfly. He wrote novels, poetry and scientific works. Shostakovich composed under the terrible pressure of Stalin’s regime, yet he was able to produce magnificent art. Told to expect a telephone call, he would have to wait at home, not knowing if the call would permit new composition opportunities or end his life.

A much-toured classic on the European circuit, L’Immédiat is a unique project that fuses physical theatre, performance and circus. Often compared to Buster Keaton, Camille Boitel is joined by six performers to surprise audiences with a riotous reflection of modern times that is catapulted into reality by breathtaking physical skills, surrealist imagery, apocalyptic optimism and chaotic, collapsing set.

About “L’Immédiat”

In the award-winning L’Immédiat by contemporary circus performer and stage virtuoso Camille Boitel, nothing is what it seems. A stage packed full of clutter; furniture, cardboard boxes, and ladders serves as a playground for performers to charge through, under and over, causing pieces of the junkyard-set to cave in around them. Chaos builds. A woman comes home and everything falls over. She hangs up her coat and the rack collapses, puts her bag on a table but its legs have been sawn through. Disaster continues to spread at a frenetic speed as the 7 young artists use their formidable physical abilities and comedy timing to defy the ruthless tsunami of destabilizing forces.

About Camille Boitel

Camille Boitel trained at Annie Fratellini’s circus school in Paris, and in 2002 was a winner at the first “Jeunes Talents Cirque”, Europe’s most prestigious new circus awards. He was an original member of James Thiérrée’s Junebug Symphony Company and made his debut at the London International Mime Festival with the remarkable solo, “L’Homme d’Hus” in 2005. L’Immédiat was awarded the “Prix Mimos” in 2010.

HKTA conducts an array of instructional training workshops in a wide variety of modern creative genres including: acting, dancing, vocal training and writing. Courses will be conducted in a variety of languages including English, and French to all, Adults, Teenagers and Kids.

The Association helps actors to gain control over their work, teaching them to rely on their own instincts, imagination and choices. Our scene study and improv classes produce confident actors who bring an original voice to every production.In fact, the most distinctive thing about one of our members is how different each one is. We train actors to speak in their own artistic voice—producing characters that are rich and layered. They become the artist they always wanted to be. Theater, television and film are all collaborative mediums, so an actor must work well with other actors, directors, casting directors and many more. Our technique trains them to do just that! That’s why we love to work with HKTA actors-students!

Emilie Guillot, born in Brittany, France, is known not only as an actress/performer but also as a drama director and producer of quite a wide number of live performances. Her debut was as a ballet dancer. She then graduated from ‘L’Ecole de Théatre Bellevue’ with a diploma in ‘Corporal techniques and improvisation’. She spent years practicing on stage and in front of the camera, with well-known acting coaches, directors, and producers such as Christian Lucciani, Sylvie Boutley, Frédérique Farina, Georges Bécot, Jean-René Lemoine, Daniel Cling, Steven Soderbergh,
Stanley J. Orzel.

Finally she graduated with a National Diploma in Performing Arts and in Drama Directing, from the renowned French Drama School ‘Le Cours Florent’, full of contentment and confidence. In July 2003, she arrived in Hong Kong and started a drama production company (Mon Café-Theatre Ltd) with which she has developped the concept of Café-theatre in HK. Emilie has also been seen as a performer and actress in ‘Isabeau’, ‘The Killing of Sister Georges’, ‘Sandman’, ‘California Suite’, ‘The Sneeze’, ‘God of Carnage’, ‘Lumina –webseries’, ‘Push’ feature film, ‘A little conversation – independent film’, ‘Boxed in’ with best film, best acting, best directing awards, ‘Chinese Zodiac 2012’, Jacky Chan production, and ‘Far away Eyes’ – feature film.

In addition to this, she is a certified Cinema Director and Line Producer from Hollywood Film Institute and HK International Film School. She is now the Artistic Director of ‘HK Theatre Association Ltd’ with which she coaches acting to adults and young kids.

Tell Me the Truth and Other Stories, a contemporary and engaging piece of theatre that tells a tale poetically. Since 1997, Sara Mangano and Pierre-Yves Massip have been exploring the art of mime and its extended forms of expression such as physical theatre, pantomime, and Dramatic Corporeal Mime. Their vision of theatre consider the body as the foundation of all dramatic material, followed by music, literature, dance and all the related forms of live performing arts. Several short plays resulted from this work.

Tell Me the Truth and Other Stories is composed of five of these short plays, and each one has a unique style. This mime show is inspired by the imagination of fables or poetry: Jacques Prevert’s poems, Jules Supervielle’s novel and the acclaimed master of mime Marcel Marceau.
