Over the years John has won championships in many classes of violin and piano competitions of the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, which include graded violin and piano solo, violin duet senior, piano duet intermediate, violin concerto age 13 or under and the Tom Lee Prize for piano ensemble. He also won top prizes in violin concerto age 19 or under, violin sonata, the Hong Kong Strings Scholarship for String Instruments Open Class, and in the violin senior group of the Hong Kong New Generation Art Association Music Competition. John has participated and performed in various masterclasses with renowned violin professors including Charles Castleman and Felix Andrievsky.
