Rona Hu started her painting pursuit when she was 8 years old under the guidance of professional artists. She has had number of exhibitions in various cities in China, in Malaysia, Vietnam, USA and European countries. As the “’85 New Wave” and the “post 1989” era end their discussion about the metaphysical propositions, Rona Hu chooses a typical group of people in contemporary society — the underprivileged class which is mainly composed of millions of rural migrant workers. Rona Hu reproduces this group of people’s appearance, expression and figure by using her excellent skills. She also puts these people in a realistic space. The space contains the state of life and colorful illusions, these two kinds of elements are very different yet juxtaposed. Thus, Rona Hu’s works reflect the underprivileged in the shadow of prosperous cities; reflect their conflicted inner world of longing and loneliness as well as their weak sense of existence.
