Violence breeds Violence! Blood demands Blood!

What is Justice? Is Revenge Right?

A Contemporary Interpretation of the Only Extant

Greek Tragedy Trilogy Presented in Entirety

It is the classic trilogy of Greek tragedies written by Aeschylus which explores the themes on justice, revenge and power. As Agamemnon is away for the Trojan War, Clytemnestra has plotted to kill him when he returns. She successfully carries out her murder but it sows the seed of another cycle of blood for blood killing. Her son Orestes, after long exile, is urged by Apollo to kill his mother in order to revenge his father’s foul murder. The Furies threatens to take Orestes’ life in order to pay for his mother’s death. At the end, Apollo seeks Athena’s help to settle the bloodthirst demand of the Furies.

Although the trilogy was written more than 2,000 years ago, it contains much of the material that makes a modern bestseller. The question about vengeance and justice is still greatly relevant today. It is rare that such classic Greek trilogy will be presented in its entirety on Hong Kong stage. This contemporary interpretation will demonstrate why Aeschylus’ masterpiece has such an enduring on dramatic literature.
