“In Spring Awakening, a Rock ‘n’ Roll Heartbeat for 19th Century German Schoolboys.” – The New York Times
“The turbulent emotions and burgeoning sexuality of adolescence are harnessed in Spring Awakening, a bold musical adaptation by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater of German expressionist playwright Frank Wedekind’s landmark 1891 drama. This strange and striking show gets an exciting staging at the Atlantic.” – Variety
Adapted from the German play of the same title by Frank Wedekind, the musical Spring Awakening has won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical、 the Academy will present the play’s first Cantonese edition in late March. This rock musical tells the story of adolescent teenagers, discovering and exploring their sexuality – a taboo subject in late 19th century German society. With the constraints of the education system and parental pressure guiding them into the uncertainty of adulthood, will their inner tumult be calmed or their life be led to a dead end?
