Scottish revelries under the baton of Principal Guest Conductor Yu Long. Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy showcases the composer’s re-imagination of several Scottish folk melodies, including an ancient tune that dates back to the Middle Ages. Mendelssohn was inspired by a visit to Scotland to write his Scottish Symphony, in which fanfares and march rhythms make striking appearances throughout the entire piece. Opening the Scottish-themed evening is the joyous celebration of a wedding on the Scottish Orkney Islands.
