Scenes of Guangdong – Concert By Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble Chaozhou
Description
Description
While the majority of the population of Hong Kong can trace their origin to the Cantonese-speaking region of Guangdong, statistics show that there are 1.2 million Teochew (or Chaozhou people), whose ethnic roots are from Chaozhou and Shantou, and 2 million Hakka, who are one of the indigenous groups of Hong Kong. Their respective cultures therefore have exerted reciprocal influence on the local community. Chaozhou music and Hakka Han music, two musical genres associated with the ethnic groups, have been inscribed onto the first National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China. More recently, Chaozhou music has been selected as one of the items on the first List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong in 2014. The concert, Scenes of Guangdong, will feature traditional tunes, new arrangements and new original compositions in the genres of Chaozhou music and Hakka Han music, while their close connection to Cantonese music – another musical genre, which is related to the culture of the Cantonese-speaking community – will also be revealed.Change of ArtistGaohu and yehu soloist Chan Pik-sum is not able to participate in this performance. Her leading and solo pieces will be substituted by Cheung Wai-lok, Tse Kim-fei and Tung Tsz-ching respectively.
