Description
The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra has always been committed to promoting the Chinese music with a wide range of repertoire. Its first concert of the year 2021 features a spectrum of vivid music ranging from traditional folk tunes to modern Chinese music pieces, to rejuvenate for the New Year.
It is a common Chinese traditional saying that the whole year’s work depends on good planning in spring. Lo Leung-fai’s Spring and Kwan Nai-chung’s Capriccio of Spring depict the beauty of spring and expresses faith and hope in the future. The value of hard work is highlighted in Xu Jingqing’s Red Flowers Blossoming Everywhere and Peng Xiuwen’s Drums in Celebration of a Bumper Harvest, where peasants celebrate the flourishing harvest delightedly. People dance cheerfully with the popular tunes Dance of the Yao Tribe and demonstrate stylish calligraphy with Law Wai-lun’s Soar to celebrate. Apart from traditional tunes such as A Cheerful Sun Rises, the concert also features modern and stylish pieces such as Wang Danhong’s Ebullient Plucked Strings, which utililises Latin America bossa nova motifs with the traditional Chinese plucked-string instrument, guzheng. Percussion ensemble The Menacing Tiger written by An Zhishun displays extraordinary drum techniques and captures vividly the actions of a fierce tiger. May the tiger scare away evil spirits, and bring us good tidings of great joy in the year ahead.
