Pre-Tour Concert 2018

Description

Description

This summer, HKCC will be touring to Xiamen and Estonia for “2018 Kulangsu Choral Festival” and “EUROPA CANTAT XX Tallinn”, and giving 2 full concerts in Finland, one being co-presented with HKETO London. Before setting off, Concert Choir presented Pre-Tour Concert 2018 at Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall on 13 July to give a preview of their tour repertoire to audience in Hong Kong.

Members sang the first song of the night Ave Maria while entering the stage from both sides of the auditorium, followed by conductor Dominic Lam, a HKCC alumnus who led the first half of the concert that filled with western works. As the choir sang Cries from a Distant World, another HKCC former member, Thomas Wong, also known as the “super top scorer” of 2018 HKDSE, appeared to give cello accompaniment to the song, igniting loud cheers from the floor. Then under the baton of Kathy Fok, HKCC’s Music Director and Principal Conductor, members staged the world premiere of Children of Light, sequel of Echoes of the Lost World by the Singaporean composer Darius Lim with various instruments to end the first half of the show.

Another half of the concert focused on Chinese and Hong Kong works and was conducted by another HKCC alumnus Vivian Suen, who is currently the Artistic Coordinator of the choir. Members first performed Kung Fu by Steve Ho, HKCC’s Composer in Residence with dances that resembled Chinese martial arts moves, illustrating the song vividly. While singing Song of Four Seasons and Flowers of Four Seasons, the choir brightened their performance with Chinese instruments and dances, giving the audiences the enjoyment to both the eyes and the ears. At the end of the concert, Music Director Kathy Fok stepped onto the stage again to conduct HKCC’s 50th Anniversary theme song I Just Want to Sing written by Steve Ho exclusively for the choir, while Dr Ho gave the whole concert hall a big surprise by give accompaniment to the song. To thank the enthusiastic audience, Concert Choir sang HKCC’s 45th Anniversary theme song Yo! for an encore.
