Plucking The Tassels

‘Chivalry and Valiance in Chinese Opera’ Series

Description

Description

General Tang Jiao and Xu Yuji are in love. The queen’s brother, who is enamoured of her, suffers a rebuff and, as a revenge, suggests the King of Chu to take her as his concubine. Unable to disobey the King’s orders, Yuji pretends to be unfaithful to Jiao so he would give up on her. Later, when the Jin army attacks the Chu camp with fire, the King of Chu who is there to lead the expedition is defeated. Yuji is separated from the King in the chaos, and seeks Jiao for help. Initially torn between love and hate, the couple finally resolves their misunderstanding. Jiao rescues Yuji but dies in her arms from a fatal arrow wound.
