Description
Description
Jérôme Faucheur was born in 1953 in Lille in northern France and began his musical studies at a very early age. He started learning organ at 13, and subsequently received lessons from Jeanne Joulain, Rolande Falcinelli and Jean Langlais, pupils of the organ virtuoso Marcel Durpré. The Gold Medal for Organ and Improvisation at the National Conservatory of Music of Lille won in 1974 was one of the most prestigious awards he received. Later on, he became the Titular Professor for Organ in the Schools of Music of Comines and Hazebrouck. He specialises in French organ music between the nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries and is now teaching organ at the Sacred Music Institute of Lille. He is also the titular organist of St Vaast Church in Bondues. He has published an organ method book for beginners in Belgium and contributes to organ magazines including L’Orgue and Orgues Nouvelles.
As an international organist, Faucheur played at the most famous organ festivals and organ weeks held in European cities including Madrid, Brussels, Rome, Geneva and Bonn. He has also performed at Notre Dame in Paris, Westminster Abbey in London, St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, Washington National Cathedral, San Francisco Cathedral, Adelaide Town Hall and St Andrew’s Cathedral in Sydney.
