Opera: Rossini’s The Barber of Seville
Music

Description
Description
Having enchanted audiences worldwide since its permiere in 1816, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville is not just the archetypal examples of Italian comic opera (Opera Buffa) but also filled with the composers most sublime and masterful music. The plot originates from the first of French playwright Beaumarchais’s Figaro Trilogy and features the familiar characters of Figaro, Count Almaviva and Rosina who also appear in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. A love-struck aristocrat disguised as a penniless student. A beautiful young girl being pursued by an older man for her money. A cunning fixer who helps make love blossom – in exchange for a fee, of course. Rossini’s celebrated comic opera The Barber of Seville never fails to fizz, bubble and entertain. Along the way, it contains some of the best-known music ever-written, from the galloping overture to the famous refrain of Figaro! Figaro!. Opera Hong Kong gives audiences the opportunity to hear this timeless classic updated with modern style and glitz.
