Pants Theatre Production specialises in exploring subjects of social significance and expressing them through drama to stimulate audiences to think about the issues. It will present the Choi Yuen Chuen rally in the form of Documentary Theatre in March next year.

Documentary Theatre is based mainly on social reality, focusing on noteworthy incidents or phenomena. The creators study the issues, gather oral and written materials and combine them with artistic imagination to create a successful work that reflects society and at the same time preserves its sense of drama.

Associate Professor of the Department of Cultural Studies at Lingnan University Dr Law, Wing-sang once said of the Choi Yuen Chuen rally: “This incident is undoubtedly a significant event in Hong Kong’s history…it is a revolutionary act that contains a rich content and involves extensive aspects”. It is true that the Choi Yuen Chuen rally had a wide impact. Despite that it is still in progress it has already had a deep influence.

Based on the drama “Redevelopment” and the data collected, Pants Theatre Production will explore further aspects and visit related parties to create a new version of the drama: “Once Upon a Time in Choi Yuen Chuen…”! “Once Upon a Time in Choi Yuen Chuen…” is written by the winner of the Hong Kong Theatre Libre for Best Screenplay Mundo, directed by Pants Theatre Production Artistic Director Wu Hoi Fai and performed by a number of creative actors, hoping to lead the students to review and rethink one of the important events in recent local history.
