Description

Description

What we are

We are an exciting ensemble of young, home-grown Hong Kong musicians dedicated to the presentation and promotion of chamber music. Our members are outstanding graduates who received their education at some of the world’s most renowned tertiary institutions for music, including the University of Music Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden, Germany; the Berlin University of the Arts; the Royal Academy of Music (London); the Taipei National University of the Arts and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Who we believe

The reason we do what we do is simple: we believe in the power of music. In the words of the preservationist Dame Jane Goodall, “to create change is not by confronting something head-on; it’s by telling stories, meeting with people, listening to them, and then trying to reach the heart.” As musicians, we may be powerless to provide solutions for the many political, social and economic issues our city faces every day, but through our performances and concerts – the “stories” we tell – we know that we may at least offer to the community a moment of pause, a space for reflection, and the possibility of creative dialogues and exchanges; in other words, to take music out of its guise as “entertainment” and restore its rightful, functional place at the centre of every community, and as the highest achievement of human civilisation.

What we do

Unlike many similar groups that have emerged in recent years, we see ourselves not just as preservationists but more importantly as explorers, charting unexplored waters and forging new paths. Aside from interpreting the standard “classics”, we aim to uncover forgotten works from the past and to commission fresh new works for the ensemble, establishing a firm link between “heritage” and “innovation”. Through our pioneering concert formats, we aim to reduce the distance between performers and listeners, and re-engage the audience as an integral part of the exciting process of creating music.
