Luscious Lips

Description
Liu Hong’s debut exhibition in Hong Kong opens at Fabrik Gallery in Sheung Wan on Thursday February 26th. “Lucious Lips” portrays the role of consumerism and changing moral values among Chinese women. “ I have deliberately painted my subjects’ lips in an overtly sexual way. My women with their brightly coloured hair against subdued grey backgrounds are passionate, sexy, independent and bold. But they are also objects of the mass media – the conundrum of modern Chinese society,” said Liu Hong.
The artist was born in China’s Shan’xi Province, and is now the Dean at the Chengdu Academy of Fine Arts, as well as a lecturer at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. She started painting at a young age, and fell in love with oils. “I decided that I would not study art if I could not get into the Oil Painting Department at the Fine Arts Institute, so I submitted only a single application. Luckily for me, I was accepted – otherwise my life would have had quite a different path,” Liu Hong explained.
Liu Hong’s works have been widely exhibited all over China, and in Singapore, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, the United States, Austria, Ireland, Belgium and Italy. Several of her works are in the collection of the Shanghai Art Museum.
