Jazz Workshop Vol. 1: Fundamentals of Rhythm and Improvising with Open Ears

Description

Description

Presented by the Fringe Club as one of the programmes of the “Jazz-Go-Central, Jazz-Go-Fringe” project, Jazz Workshop is the training programme of the Jazz Youth Internship Scheme Phase II. From November 2018 to May 2019, a series of six public workshops will be held at the Fringe Club. Topics range from jazz improvisation to arts administration. The workshop will be opened to the public as well.

The first workshop will be hosted by young local jazz drummer Nate Wong, covering topics from a drummer’s perspective but relevant to improvisers on any instruments. He’ll introduce the fundamentals of time-keeping, swinging and grooving, and generating an individual vocabulary for jazz. Then he’ll talk about philosophies for an improvisational mindset and music interpretation.
