The annual concert this year will again be conducted by Tsui Ying-fai and Kwok Kin-ming. In addition to performing the classic zhongruan concerto “In Remembrance of Yunnan” with zhongruan principal Ng Kai-hei, the HKYCO will also collaborate with suona principal Kwan Lok-tin in performing the suona concerto “Ecstasy of Nature”.
The repertoire will also include the “United We Go” concerto, a lively piece of traditional Cantonese wujiatou with orchestral accompaniment; “Spiraling Voice in the Mountains” inspired by indigenous Taiwanese songs; “Winter”, which portrays the beauty of the season as a sonata; and the “Fire Torch Festival” (from the Yunnan tone poem), which reflects the Yunnan ethnic minority’s celebration of the traditional festival.
