Description
Description
Yang Liujiao, a widow in Suzhou, and her sister-in-law Su Yugui live at the house of the Su family and rely upon each other. Yang Liujiao feels lonely and commits adultery with Qin Sanfeng who is a clerk at the county’s government office; she even wants to marry him. The duo beheads the wife of Qin and buries her head under the white poplar tree at the government office. Qin puts Yang’s clothes, shoes and socks on his wife’s body and buries it by the bridge. The murderous knife is thrown into the bushes. The plan is to frame Yang’s sister-in-law as the murderer of Yang. Meng Song is the newly appointed prefectural magistrate. He falsely indicts murderous charges on Su Yugui and her lover Liu Ziqing, and gives them death penalty. Zuo Weiming, the prefectural magistrate of Changzhou, is in disbelief when he hears of the indictment of his student Liu Ziqing. He suspects there is something suspicious about the case. Using his official capacity, he stops the execution and requests a re-trial, using an embroidered red shoe as his first clue to continue the investigation. Yang Liujiao finds Zuo Weiming young and handsome, then gives him a flirtatious look. Zuo understands Yang’s intentions and tries to please her. Based on the suspicions of Yang, Zuo tracks down where the case begins and uncovers the head of the victim. The real killer is found. Justice is served for Yugui and Ziqing.
