Playful improvisation with piano and strings
Young local pianist Daniel Chu and nine string players from Freespace Ensemble engage in an evening of spontaneous musical creation and games exploring the relationships between repetition, improvisation and interaction. Taking melodic fragments and ideas, the musicians play with improvisation and “tag” renditions of repeated phrases, communicating instinctively with and without words as they pass the musical baton. Both structured and improvised, the performance demands a high level of mutual understanding among the musicians and promises a playful and intriguing listening experience for the audience.
