Description
The show title takes its inspiration from a poem of French poet, Paul Celan – “Eingedunkelt”, which translates to benighted, an absolute darkness. It is an ambiguous state between the night and dawn, containing countless of possibilities. As one of the most significant contemporary German neo-expressionist, Hödicke paints with genuine emotions, in a wild and enthusiastic style. Having been through the turmoil in the ‘darkest moment’ of German politics, he concerned the fate of the nation, as well as the joys and sorrows of the people. The pain, struggles and hope that he has endured and expressed, echoed the destiny of mankind. It is undeniable that a new era has arrived.
