Die Young – Rental United Solo Exhibition
Visual Arts

Description
Description
Formed in 2009, Rental United is an artist group by Stephanie Sin, Damon Tong and Timothy Zauhou. It was initiated by three artists sharing a studio in Fo Tan, Hong Kong. With each individual style and media creating art, but together three artists collaborate to share their performance interacted works by the collective name “Rental United”.
They started its first appearance showcasing a real time video installation in Fotanian Open Studio 2010, and the group creates performance related art projects regularly. Their works are time based, which means the works will expire in a sense or already expired. Although like most performance artists documenting the live actions in video and photograph, the sensation, that different audiences and the collective experiencing during the event happening, cannot be replicated. In other words, Die Young may refer to what we see in a showcase is just a re-presentation of the dead work, which is passing away each second.
Consisted of two parts in this showcase, Rental United will share a re-interpretation of the work “As You Like It” in the Asia Contemporary Art Show from October 2nd to 5th. In the second part, they will transform the concepts of several previous works in to new re-presentations in the solo exhibition Die Young from October 9th to 31st.
“Rental United’s focus of art intervention has always been about the artists’ surroundings, such as studios, neighborhoods and art events. We seek connections between the audience, the artists and the art itself, by taking mundane services of daily life and present it in the format of a performance or live installations. For us (Hong Kong) audiences have always been within our interests. It is a critical component for local art development.” – Rental United
