Dial A Phone – Group Exhibition By Oscar Chan And Bea Au

Description

Description

Red Elation Gallery is pleased to announce the group exhibition by Oscar Chan and Bea Au, titled “Dial A Phone”, which presents some recent paintings, photography and interactive art by the artists. The starting point for this exhibition is the observation that people over-rely on their smart phones and have become addicted to them, including the two artists. The artists use different art forms and languages to discover the relationship between technology and life. The exhibition continues from 12th April 2014 through 3rd May 2014.
Oscar CHAN started from observing the habits of how people use their phones, creating a series of paintings titled “Contacts” to help visitors remember phone numbers through images. This series of paintings tries to study and reflect again on how much we rely on our phone instead of using our own brains. “How Deep is Your Love?” is another series of artworks by Oscar showing how we use texting nowadays, and how we express our most intimate feelings on our cell phones by using words in repetition.
Bea AU has produced a series of photographs titled “Emoji” to show how we are overusing “emoticons” and at the same time questioning these simplified signals, their substitute for and their merging with the complex layers of our diverse feelings.
