“Dear Universe,” Sammi Mak Wing-sum’s solo exhibition

Description
Description
“Dear Universe,” is Sammi Mak Wing-sum’s conversation with the world. The landscapes in her prints seem familiar yet somehow strange, as the world she creates does not represent any particular place. Through printmaking, Sammi documents fleeting scenes that she holds dear to her heart. She believes the natural world contains flows of energy: when she presents the scenery with printmaking, it is like transferring energy to paper. By viewing her prints, the audience in turn absorbs the energy. Even though the landscapes appear to be static, energy is constantly circulated and regenerated. No scenery is eternal as everything is unpredictable; after all, changes are merely energy in various forms. Perhaps looking at the moments captured in Sammi’s prints is like—as my little airport sings—sitting at the front row on the upper deck of a bus, “and put the best scenery before your eyes.”
