Community Oral History Theatre Project – Eastern District – Memories From The Island East

Description

Description

Walking along the tramline on King’s Road, we search for historical tracks from Hong Kong’s good old days, witness the transformation of Eastern District, reminisce about the heart-warming community spirit…

Over the years, North Point – a bustling Hong Kong district, has been the favoured place to settle for new immigrants from mainland China, due to its affordable rents and convenient public transport. Home to many Fujianese and Shanghainese residents, North Point was formerly known as ‘Little Fujian’ and ‘Little Shanghai’.

In tandem with Hong Kong’s urban development, residents of Eastern District come and go, gather and depart. Do you know the situation and stories of the district and its people back in the 1960s and 1970s?
