Bonjour Suzanne, Bonjour!

Description

Description

Soprano Florence Cheng and pianist Cynthia Chan pay tribute to French composer Erik Satie in this concert, celebrating the 150th anniversary of his birth.

The programme starts with Bonjour Biqui, Bonjour!, Satie’s song for voice and piano that was inspired by his brief and intense affair with his one and only lover, his “Biqui”, the artist Suzanne Valadon. Next come Satie’s Gymnopédies, L’amour Chante by Darius Milhaud and Le Travail du Peintre by Francis Poulenc.

Florence Cheng received her Master of Music in Choral Conducting at San Francisco State University. She also received vocal training at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

During her studies in the US, Florence was an active singer in various music ensembles, including the SFSU Chamber Singers, the SFSU Afro-Cuban Ensemble, the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, the Symphony Silicon Valley Chorus and a vocal jazz ensemble in the SF Bay Area. Florence was also the conductor and vocal coach of the San Francisco State University Women’s Chorus, a member of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, and a member and assistant conductor of the Symphony Silicon Valley Chorale and the Symphony Silicon Valley Singers.

Florence is currently the choral instructor of the Hong Kong Children’s Choir and the vocal coach for various community and school choirs and a cappella ensembles. In the past year, she has been invited to judge singing contests at HKU and CUHK. Florence performs regularly as a soprano, vocalist, and choral director in Hong Kong and Macau, with a diverse repertoire including classical, operatic and musical theatre works.
