Presented by the Fringe Club as one of the programmes in the “Jazz-Go-Central, Jazz-Go-Fringe” project, “Big Band Nights” feature various local jazz big bands.
Founded in 2011, the FACE Saxophone Big Band now has over 50 members. The band mainly performs big-band jazz music, ranging from the traditional Swing tune “Sing Sing Sing” to tunes by Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band and the Nettai Tropical Jazz Big Band, plus modern Latin, Rock and Funk music. The band has participated in many events, including the Hong Kong Summer Jazz Festival 2016 and “Big Band Era 2017”, both organised by the Hong Kong Big Band Jazz Federation.
With a passion for jazz, band members regularly visit homes for the aged, orphanages and district centres for the elderly in their spare time. In 2013, to acknowledge the group’s love and care for the needy, the Agency for Volunteer Service presented the group with the 5th Hong Kong Volunteer Award Certificate of Merit.
