In his latest series of portraits, Min Wae Aung depicts monks expressing their inner joy as they continue their journey of self-exploration. Smiling faces and light, playful moods characteristic of the state of ‘Ananda’, or Inner Bliss, are portrayed using an inverse, negative technique. The high contrast and the rich palette of maroons, reds and oranges give the paintings a dramatic look whilst reflecting the artist’s complete mastery over light and dark and shadows.
