This April, Tallis Vocalis will present a special concert of Renaissance music for Holy Week and Easter conducted by Geoffrey Webber, Director of Music at Gonville & Caius College, University of Cambridge.
The sublime Miserere by Allegri is the highlight of the programme. This performance will present a new edition charting the evolution of this famous work from its unadorned early form though to later embellishments and the iconic ‘top C’. Mirroring it, Macmillan’s Miserere (2009) provides a startling contemporary reflection on the theme of repentance.
Other works include German composer Hans Leo Hassler’s Mass written for eight voices, and some splendid motets and anthems by by Lotti, Tallis, Gibbons, Philips, Browne and Taverner.
Geoffrey Webber, Director of Music at Gonville & Caius College, University of Cambridge, will conduct.
