Description

Description

Founded in 2003, the Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble is a professional Chinese music ensemble actively promoting local talents and producing quality chamber concerts with a mission to promote Chinese music culture in Hong Kong and to show the unique charm of Chinese instrumental ensemble music genre, known for being ‘small but elegant’ and ‘simple yet refined’. The Ensemble currently consists of 16 resident musicians, who are all graduates majoring in music or performance from various institutes in Hong Kong with rich experience in concert performance and they are versatile and flexible in both traditional and contemporary repertoires. The formation of the ensemble configuration has made reference with traditional Chinese sizhu, or silk and bamboo format. The Ensemble has commissioned and premiered around 20 new works. It was incorporated as the ‘Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble Ltd.’ in 2011, with conductor Ho Man-chuen as its Artistic Adviser and the Ensemble’s founder, Chan Chiu-yin, as Executive Director.
